WHEELING AND DEALING …
NUMBER OF TRADES (since Nov. 13): 29
BANTAM DRAFT PICKS: 39
CONDITONAL BANTAM DRAFT PICKS: 5
THE DEADLINE: Wednesday, Jan. 10 (2 p.m. PT, 3 p.m. MT, 4 p.m. CT)
THE DEAL: The Swift Current Broncos acquired F Josh Anderson, 19, from the Prince George Cougars for two first-round bantam draft picks — one in 2018 and one in 2019.
THE NUMBERS: The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Anderson has one goal and six assists in 25 games this season. In 177 career games, he has seven goals and 21 assists. His game is strongest in his defensive zone where he is a bruiser.
THE INFO: From Duncan, B.C., Anderson was selected by the Cougars with the third overall pick of the 2013 bantam draft. He was a third-round selection by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2016 NHL draft but has yet to sign a pro contract. . . . Anderson is an old school, stay-at-home, shutdown defenceman, who, despite his game, doesn’t take a lot of penalties. . . . He likely will make his Broncos debut on Friday against the host Prince Albert Raiders. . . . Both first-round selections involved in this deal originated with the Broncos. Swift Current keeps the 2019 first-round pick it received from the Vancouver Giants for D Joel Sexsmith on Sunday.
WHY: The Broncos know that their playoff path is likely to lead through Moose Jaw and they wanted Anderson’s physical game to help deal with the Warriors’ talented group of forwards. . . . The Cougars, who have started a major rebuild, add to their assets that can be used on draft picks or to deal for experience down the road.
